Alfredo Arribas a multidisciplinary architect, has developed most of his renowned international career in multiple world locations. Recently, more of his works have taken place in his birth town, Barcelona.
In 2001, Alfredo started his adventure in the wine world, after acquiring the estate Clos del Portal, in Priorat, where he centres his activity. In parallel, he develops a recovery task of a bunch of old vines – Trossos – in the neighbor Montsant appelation.
Tros de Clos Mas del Metge is a red wine from the Priorat D.O. (Designation of Origin). This wine is a single-varietal of Cariñena.
The grapes used in Tros de Clos Mas del Metge come from two Cariñena vineyards that ascend between cliffs towards the
highest peaks of the estate. Fresh orientations, capable of delaying the ripening periods. Generous power and essential character, sustained by the grape that is most resistant to extreme terroirs.
The soil is licorella – brown slate – and the vines are very old, 60 plus years some are even a century old. Farmed using biodynamic practices.
The harvest of the Tros de Clos Mas del Metge grapes is done manually in small crates to prevent the grapes from breaking and to ensure they arrive at the winery in the best possible condition.
Once at the winery, the Tros de Clos Mas del Metge whole bunch clusters (without destemming) undergo a gentle cold pre-fermentation maceration. Subsequently, they undergo fermentation with native yeasts at a controlled temperature, and, finally, Tros de Clos Mas del Metge ages for about 14 months in large French oak barrels called “bocoyes.”
Tros de Clos Mas del Metge 2020 is a red wine that, on the nose, presents a delightful complexity with prominent notes of ripe black fruits, complemented by floral scents, as well as herbal and mineral nuances. On the palate, it is crisp and succulent, boasting an impeccable structure and precise acidity. This is a robust red wine with a prolonged and sophisticated finish.
Red meat is the most perfect partner weather cooked on a charcoal barbeque, roasted or pan fried and finished in the oven. String hard cheeses would also be a good option.
Drinking well now but will benefit from further cellaring – 2025 – 2040+
