Alfredo Arribas, El Mas de L’A, Tot-ú, 2021, Priorat, Catalonia, Spain

Producer Profile

Alfredo Arribas a multidisciplinary architect, has developed most of his renowned international career in multiple world locations. Recently, more of his works have taken place in his birth town, Barcelona.

In 2001, Alfredo started his adventure in the wine world, after acquiring the estate Clos del Portal, in Priorat, where he centres his activity. In parallel, he develops a recovery task of a bunch of old vines – Trossos – in the neighbour Montsant appellation.

“El Mas de l’A” is undoubtedly clearly focused on the search for a different Priorat. A project based on the different red and white Grenache grapes growing in the enclave of La Morera de Montsant, a valley located between the small towns of Cornudella and Poboleda, this region stands out for its ideal climatic conditions, a perfect balance between north and south, an altitude of 500 metres above sea level, and a rich range of soils.

Viticulture

Opting for sustainable agriculture and viticulture, co-planting as a rule, and stimulating the virtues of the youngest vines. The result is a range of very fine wines with a lower alcohol content and silky tannins. Wines with great potential and small productions.

Assemblage of the various soils and varieties present in the vineyards of the Mas de l’A estate.

Winemaking

Harmonic conjunction of bleedings from both direct pressing (of several red and white varieties), as well as macerations with whole bunches of subtle Grenaches. All finally gathered in steel vats, forming a fresh and vibrant set, without additions, naturally decanted, without filtering and bottled after a minimum of 8 months. The “enfant terrible” of the Vins Fins.

Tasting Note

This is almost a bridge between a rose and red wine. Packed with raspberry, red currents and black cherries, and fresh nuances of pink grapefruit and blood orange. On the palate ripe tannins are balanced by racy acidity. Best served slightly chilled, a wonderful expression of fruit and elegance.

Goes well with

Keep it simple – Serrano ham and Manchego cheese.

Cellaring

3-5 years with careful cellaring.
