Alfredo Arribas, Parcellaires, Tros Blanc Saleres, Garnacha Blanca, 2017, Montsant, Catalonia, Spain

Producer Profile

Alfredo Arribas a multidisciplinary architect, has developed most of his renowned international career in multiple world locations. Recently, more of his works have taken place in his birth town, Barcelona.

In 2001, Alfredo started his adventure in the wine world, after acquiring the estate Clos del Portal, in Priorat, where he centres his activity. In parallel, he develops a recovery task of a bunch of old vines – Trossos – in the neighbor Montsant appelation.

Perfectionist and empirical at the same time, Alfredo associates elaboration to creativity. Bringing forth vinifications with substantial notes and accents, he proposes sensible Priorats.

The respect and curiosity for different origins and terroirs creates in his work the proliferation of references, itineraries through the territory, with the explicit duality between search/discovery… in the spectrum of his wines.

Viticulture

“Tros” is the name given to the small terroir that one farmer is capable of working in a day. Trossos is a collection of old vines, small plots from the historic area of the Montsant appellation, always identifiable by their origin and by their diverse soils: sandy, calcareous or red clays. The Trossos monovarietal relationship brings together this great wealth, accentuated by a respectful work that gives the wines a classic approach starting from the tradition, obtaining vintages of great potential and complexity. Wines to be kept, highly representative of the origin’s value and the lineage of each variety.

The compelling wineTros Blanc Saleres is the flagship Spanish white wine of the prestigious winemaker Alfredo Arribas. It is a Burgundy-style Grand Cru, born in one of Montsant’s absolute best terroirs.

100% Grenache Blanc sourced from a single plot – planted with 70-year-old, low-yielding vines. The vineyard is located near the village of El Masroig, at 325 metres of altitude, in the very heart of Montsant.

Winemaking

Fermented spontaneously in big French oak puncheons on it’s gross lees for 10 months.

Tasting Note

A wine worthy of some serious attention, this White Grenache has a multi-layered and nuanced nose. Very pure aromas of white fruit and bone fruit, with a some flecks of white flowers, Mediterranean garrigue, deep menthol and spicy remembrances, and a mineral and earthy note.

Fresh, bold and full of potential,  citrus and peaches, a hint of balsam and flowers, a note of underbrush, and remembrances of earth, dry fruit and honey. Great acidity, intricate texture and remarkable breadth. This white wine has a long finish with a gently bitter and deeply mineral note.
