Producer Profile
Viñedos Olvidados was born out of a love of the land and the wine it produces, this along with passion and relentlessness, forced the team behind Valtravieso to look beyond their immediate surroundings.
The goal is to rescue those areas of traditional vineyards that need special care and attention, to discover their hidden treasures and give them the best versions of their native varieties while preserving their essence.
As a result, Valtravieso expands its knowledge and experience in the wine industry to include three other Designations of Origin, such as Arlanza, Jumilla and Ribera del Júcar, offering an Exclusive Collection of five wines with their own personalities, and always with the Valtravieso seal of quality.
Altitude, limestone and character. This wine is made from limestone plots at altitude, which greatly marks the character and typicity of the wine. Monastrell ungrafted vines planted on limestone soil that give a nobility to the variety and a superlative capacity to produce fine wine.
Viticulture
Sourced from ungrafted vines grown in chalky soils. Vinification by vineyard area, from 1000 to 3000kg.
Winemaking
Grapes are destemmed and vatted without pumps. Daily manual crushing and devatting according to tasting, with gentle but long macerations. Malolactic fermentation is carried out in foudre and 400-500 litre barrels. Final blending is made halfway through the ageing process.
Around 20 months in French oak/foudre barrels.
