Viticulture

Situated on the right bank of the river in Castedo do Douro, in the heart of the Douro Valley. Sun exposure towards the south. The vineyards were planted in single varietal plots between 1991 and 1992.

Winemaking

It took place on the third and fourth weeks of September in 15-tonne stainless steel fermentation vats with temperature control. All the grape varieties were vinified separately. Fermentation took 10 days at an average temperature of 28ºC, followed by a further 5 days of post-fermentation maceration.

After malolactic fermentation, the wine is stabilised, followed by bottling and subsequent ageing for 3 months in the bottle.

Tasting Note

Deep ruby in colour, it is characterised by an intense and complex aroma dominated by ripe red fruits such as cassis and strawberry; black fruits such as plum and floral notes of orange blossom. The palate is intense, with excellent volume, balanced acidity and soft tannins. Long-lasting finish.

Goes well with

White meats, creamy pastas and hunter-style dishes.

Cellaring

Piano DOC Red is ideal for immediate consumption, however it has ageing potential for more 3 to 5 years. Store in the cellar with the bottle lying down.
