Day Wines, Vin de Days Blanc, 2024, Willamette Valley AVA, Oregon, America

Producer Profile

Day Wines was founded by winemaker and owner Brianne Day in 2012.

Brianne produces boutique, artisanal bottlings made from fruit sourced exclusively from a small group of Oregon growers who utilize Biodynamic, Organic and/or Sustainable vineyard practices. To create distinct expressions of their corner of the world, Day Wines focus on fruit harvested from the esteemed Willamette Valley to exotic varietals found in Southern Oregon’s Applegate Valley AVA.

All of Brianne’s wines are crafted with an attention to detail that allows her to impart minimum levels of intervention in the winery. ”We take what the vineyard and vintage give us and allow nature to do its thing.”  – Brianne Day

Brianne believes the character of Oregon wine is defined by the incredible diversity found in the various growing regions spread across the state. From Applegate Valley in the south to Yamhill-Carlton in the north and numerous AVAs in between, she seeks and works with growers who are committed to stewardship of the soil and the vine through biodynamic and organic practices. These people are the backbone of the Day Wines business, and the team are proud to call them partners and friends.

Viticulture

This is an Alsatian-style white blend of five organically farmed vineyards from around the Willamette Valley; Anne Amie Estate, Aurora, Lachini and Nemarniki.

Each vineyard was picked when the fruit was optimal for the overall blend: some fruit was picked for its aromatics, some for its acid, and some for its fruit characteristics.

Winemaking

Grapes were direct-pressed into stainless steel tanks, then settled while chilled for 24 hours. After racking off the gross lees, the juice was composed into a
stainless-steel tank for natural fermentation. This blend is co-fermented; we add each successive varietal into the same tank, building the yeast culture with fresh sugars. This vintage completed malolactic fermentation (MLF), and was cross-flow filtered. It was bottled with minimal sulphur. Aged for only a few months in stainless-steel tanks, this wine is designed to drink in its youth.

Tasting Note

Harvest aromas of yellow and pink apple, juicy yellow peach and apricot, and exotic floral wildness dominate the nose. The palate reflects the nose with the addition of spicy ginger, lemon oil, and cherry blossom also in play. It’s juicy and generous this year, lots of ripe stone fruit and mouth watering citrus.

Goes well with

To be enjoyed both as an aperitif and as a complement to sushi, oysters, all manner of salads and raw vegetables, as well as soft ripe cheeses and foie gras. A very versatile wine!

Cellaring

1 – 3 years with careful cellaring, although designed to drink in its youth.
