Domaine Saint-Lannes, Signature, 2022, Côtes de Gascogne, France

Producer Profile

The Domaine Saint-Lannes vineyard, which takes its name from the neighbouring Romanesque chapel of the 12th century, is located on the magnificent terroirs of the Ténarèze, on the paths of Saint-Jacques de Compostela.

Operating the Domaine Saint-Lannes since 1955, and producing wines since 1982, the Duffour family has constantly evolved its production with the main objectives of respect for the soil, highlighting local grape varieties, and the pleasure taken in the tasting of these wonderful wines.

Surrounded by quarries whose limestone outcrops in some places, the clay-limestone soils allow Domaine Saint-Lannes produces rich, concentrated wines, very marked by an undeniable “terroir” effect and an unusual typicity.

The ocean climate and the proximity of the Pyrenees, with the particularity of having hot summers accompanied by cool nights, bring all their influence to the aromatic quality of the grapes.

Viticulture

Mastering modern technologies more respectful of the environment, Domaine Saint-Lannes is now part of a sustainable approach by investing in technologies that limit impacts on nature.

The vineyards are located on the hills of the Tenarèze, with more clay and limestone than gravels and sand.

Winemaking

2022 was a very dry and hot year, with dryness during the season. Due to the warmth the fruit was harvested very early, middle August for the first grapes, with the largest part at the beginning of September.

The grapes are directly pressed in a pneumatic press. Each varietal is fermented separately and kept on their lees for few months. The blend is finalised just before the first bottling, which can occur between December to January.

Tasting Note

Lively and fresh with many complex and intense aromas of exotic and citrus fruits, typical from these local grape varieties. Long & pleasant finish.
