Viticulture

The winery and vineyard are located by the Andes range, San Rafael, Mendoza Province. They can be found near an area of marsh on the north riverbank of Atuel River. At 34° 50° south latitude, east of San Rafael mountain range, at the foot of Cerro Negro hill.

The diverse properties of these lands give each of these wines a unique identity.

The soil is deep, permeable and poor in organic matter. These are key properties to produce great wine. Furthermore, the lands in the area are dry and arid, characterised by low levels of rainfall and moisture. This is important to keep the plant’s health throughout the year and the fruit at harvest time.

The growing area features sandy loam soil, which together with the weather characteristics of the region, promote proper ripening and aromas and colour richness. Here, in these lands, is where the vineyard’s charm begins.

Náufrago (“The Castaway”) celebrates those with a soul of their own, those who dare to go beyond, regardless of what others say, those who are different. Rare and unique—just like those who enjoy it. Náufrago is essential at gatherings among friends and the faithful companion of every new adventure.

Grapes for El Náufrago  are harvested manually between mid-March and April.

Winemaking

Grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation in small concrete vats or specialized tanks. For the El Náufrago Malbec, selected yeasts are introduced, and temperatures are rigidly maintained between 25°C and 27°C over a 21-day maceration period to optimize colour and tannin extraction.

50% of the blend is aged for 8 months, while another 25% consists of young wine and the remaining 25% is aged on French oak staves in vessels.

Tasting Note

Ruby in colour. On the nose and palate, it is both fruity and complex due to its oak aging. It offers notes of black fruits and toasted nuances, with  a  pleasant, smooth  body, sweet tannins, and medium persistence, featuring an interesting presence of French oak.

Goes well with

El Náufrago Malbec pairs best with rich, savoury dishes that complement its structured body and dark fruit profile. Because it is a high-altitude Malbec from Mendoza, its natural acidity and robust tannins cut through fat and stand up to bold flavours.
Classic Argentine options like skirt steak (entraña), ribeye, or barbecued lamb are ideal. The charred edges of grilled meat beautifully match the wine’s oak-aged complexity.

Cellaring

Optimal drinking window is 3 to 6 years. Within this timeframe, the primary plum and blackberry notes remain fresh while the tannins soften.
