Fragas do Lecer (Monterrrei DO) is located in Vilaza, Galicia, in Northwest Spain, within the valley of Monterrei, right by the Támega river. The winery was founded in 2005 by the Boo-Rivero family, winegrowers with a history of over 30 years commitment toward growing indigenous varietals.
The vineyards total 45 acres, in 28 different estate vineyards. This diversity results in various soil types: granite based, sandy, and slate, offering great complexity to the wines. The Tamaguelos estate has over 10 acres of Godello and Mencia vines that are over 30 years old. In addition, they also have some of the oldest Godello and Mencia vines in the region, over 50 years old.
Fragas do Lecer pactice organic viticulture, with maximum respect for the vineyards, and minimum intervention.
100% Godello grown in own vineyards with more that 20 years of age, on slopes of granite disintegration, these vines yield a fruit quality that reflects precisely this very particular ‘terroir’.
Produced by talented local winemaker José Manuel Martínez Juste at Grandes Pagos Gallegos de Viticultura Tradicional, Fraga do Corvo (Woods of the Crows) exudes the true character of carefully tended, manually harvested Godello grapes.
Fraga do Corvo Godello is meticulously vinified under strict temperature control, before ageing on its lees for 7 months in order to gain added richness and mid-palate texture.
Intense floral aromas (white flowers, jasmine, white rose and orange blossom) and fruit trees (apples, lemons, pears) on the nose with subtle notes of boxwood, fresh grass and citrus. A lovely creamy texture is followed with volume and a refreshing sensation. Citrus, mineral and slightly saline with a long finish.
Spicy dishes , Seafood, Soft cheeses, White meats, Foie-gras.
