Georg Preisinger, Grauburgunder, Goldberg, 2022, Burgenland, Austria

Producer Profile

Viticulture has been the focus of the Preisinger family for five generations. What began in 1851 as mixed farming with animal husbandry has developed over generations into today’s winery.

5th Generation Georg Preisinger,  put it quite simply in and of itself: “You can taste the origin of good wine. The love for it, too.”

The rocket is a carefully chosen symbol for their wines. It stands for the journey through time that becomes possible through the enjoyment of strong-charactered wines: The immersion into a past year, the taste structure of the past handed down through time to the present. Sun, coolness, rain, dryness. But also, the overcoming of distances – which good wine masters so well. By the way, you can experience a journey through time of the special kind on board our top wines: with up to 47-year-old vines that encompass some of the oldest vegetative memories of the vineyards of Gols.

Viticulture

Pinot Gris has been grown at Preisinger since 1980,  and there was a mix-up:  Georg Preisinger Senior actually ordered “Frühlinger Veltliner” vines at the time, but Pinot Gris was delivered. In the first few years, this vineyard was used almost exclusively for the production of Prädikatswein, until the senior winemaker recognized the high quality of this strong, dry wine.

Winemaking

Pinot Gris is one of the most important white wines at Preisinger, with which they have already received a number of awards. It is matured in large oak barrels. The grapes are reddish-grey, the must is pink. The yeast robs it of its colour, and it then remains golden yellow with a subtle copper tint. Its subtle aroma and its creaminess make it a perfect accompaniment to food.

Tasting Note

Medium golden yellow, brassy reflections. Ripe yellow pears, a hint of blossom honey, a hint of dried banana, a hint of herbs and anise. Juicy, yellow stone fruit, fine acid structure, subtle fruit sweetness on the finish, an elegant, balanced accompaniment to food.

Goes well with

Grilled Chicken Caesar salad or any of the following would be a great match – cream of mushroom soup, pizza/quiche with cheese, pasta al forno, fish in a salt crust, fish roasted or braised in the oven, roasted or grilled seafood.

Cellaring

Perfect drinking now but will continue to develop with careful cellaring for up to 5 years.

Don’t just take our word for it…
