Georg Preisinger, Sixty Nine, St Laurent, 2021, Ried Ungerberg, Burgenland, Austria

Producer Profile

Viticulture has been the focus of the Preisinger family for five generations. What began in 1851 as mixed farming with animal husbandry has developed over generations into today’s winery.

5th Generation Georg Preisinger,  put it quite simply in and of itself: “You can taste the origin of good wine. The love for it, too.”

The rocket is a carefully chosen symbol for their wines. It stands for the journey through time that becomes possible through the enjoyment of strong-charactered wines: The immersion into a past year, the taste structure of the past handed down through time to the present. Sun, coolness, rain, dryness. But also, the overcoming of distances – which good wine masters so well. By the way, you can experience a journey through time of the special kind on board our top wines: with up to 47-year-old vines that encompass some of the oldest vegetative memories of the vineyards of Gols.

Viticulture

The fruit for this wine is sourced from the vineyard of the same name (planted in 1969).

Winemaking

Spontaneous maceration and malolactic fermentation in large open wooden barrels. Followed by 24 months in French oak barrels of second fill.

Tasting Note

Supple and long St. Laurent with a wonderful Burgundian character. Lots of depth. Convincingly integrated terroir.

Dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, delicate ochre edge lightening. Delicate hibiscus and fresh cranberries, pickled cherries, candied mandarin zest, inviting bouquet. Juicy, elegant and fresh, sweet red berry texture, silky tannins, mineral-salty finish, lemony aftertaste, a lively accompaniment to food.

Goes well with

This high-quality St. Laurent pairs well with a variety of dishes as it is versatile and exhibits a wide range of flavors. Some classic pairings include aged meats such as beef or lamb, poultry dishes like duck or goose, as well as game dishes such as venison or wild boar. Dishes with mushrooms or herbs also complement Sixty Nine nicely.

Cellaring

3-10 years with careful cellaring.
