Georg Preisinger, Zweigelt, Sixty-Eight, 2020, Burgenland, Austria

Producer Profile

Viticulture has been the focus of the Preisinger family for five generations. What began in 1851 as mixed farming with animal husbandry has developed over generations into today’s winery.

5th Generation Georg Preisinger,  put it quite simply in and of itself: “You can taste the origin of good wine. The love for it, too.”

The rocket is a carefully chosen symbol for their wines. It stands for the journey through time that becomes possible through the enjoyment of strong-charactered wines: The immersion into a past year, the taste structure of the past handed down through time to the present. Sun, coolness, rain, dryness. But also, the overcoming of distances – which good wine masters so well. By the way, you can experience a journey through time of the special kind on board our top wines: with up to 47-year-old vines that encompass some of the oldest vegetative memories of the vineyards of Gols.

Sourced from a single vineyard planted in 1968. Hand-picked in small boxes in the September following pre-selection process in the vineyard, with further post-selection in the winery.

Spontaneous fermentation takes place in large wooden fermentation racks with 3 weeks maceration and a further 18 months aging in French oak barriques, 40% of which is new.

Tasting Note

Clear and deep, youthful, polished scent of predominantly red berries and cherries with very fine floral and somewhat herbaceous notes as well as a hint of pepper. Firm, fresh, juicy and polished fruit, very fine, ripe, youthful tannins and bite, persistent on the palate, elegant style, salty in the background, depth, lots of life, very good, firm, juicy and delicately spicy finish with a hint of smoke.

Goes well with

Goose liver pate, game pie, Pasta al Ragù, braised beef in red wine, beef with mushroom sauce, roast leg of lamb and some hard cheeses.
