Brothers in Arms is very much a family concern. As the owners, Guy & Liz Adams are involved in all aspects of the business on a daily basis. It’s not surprising really as they live on the vineyard only 2 minutes down the road to the winery.
The homestead is the hub of everything as well as being the domain of their 2 children, Myles & Emily. They are the 6th Generation to live at Metala and are the inspiration for many things, including the No.6 label.
“As we continue to be the custodians of the Metala property our vision moving forward is to respect the lessons learned in the past while seeking out innovative approaches to our future.”
Having control of the wines from the soil to the bottle gives Guy & Liz great satisfaction. They understand how each parcel of fruit came to be and where certain distinct characteristics may be found. This is invaluable when it comes to blending the wines, building each layer of texture and flavour to create styles which they believe best showcase the estate and the Langhorne Creek region.
The most notable thing about Langhorne Creek is the ability to grow premium quality grapes with a minimal amount of fuss. The climate is warm enough that we don’t have to endure some of the cool climate headaches such as devastating frosts, labour intensive canopy management or inclement weather associated with late harvest dates.
Harvested at night on the 19 March – 30 March 2012. 100% single estate, 6 individual plantings.
On receival the fruit was destemmed only, no crushing. 10 days on skins prior to pressing and maturation for 19 months in seasoned French & American barriques.
A deep, heavy crimson in colour this wine exudes dark fruits and hints of sweet tobacco and mulberry aromas. A touch of vanilla oak characters grace the palate upfront and lead you into a complex realm of juicy goji berries wrapped in crisp tannins, which lend to an elegant longevity.
Barbequed meats.
