Limestone Coast wines from South Australia are recognised for their quality, driven by unique terra rossa soils, a Mediterranean climate, and the cooling influence of the Southern Ocean. The region produces highly-regarded Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay, and other varieties, known for complex flavours, mineral notes, and elegant structure. Key sub-regions within the Limestone Coast include Coonawarra, Wrattonbully, and Padthaway, each contributing to the diverse character of the wines.
LCW like to think of themselves as a humble winery producing great things. They are a family owned and operated business, crafting some of The Limestone Coast’s and Australia’s finest cool climate wines.
In South-Eastern Australia, the 2024 vintage was defined by early budburst and an accelerated harvest, prompted by a warm, dry spring and early summer conditions. While some regions experienced weather setbacks including spring frosts in parts of South Australia and hail in the Barossa and Clare Valleys, many vineyards benefited from cool nights and steady ripening. Yields tended to be lower than average, yet the grape quality was consistently high, with powerful, fragrant reds and vibrantly aromatic whites reported widely across the region.
Cool fermentation and gentle time on skins (8–10 days) have brought out the wine’s bright fruit character and smooth tannins. A touch of oak and carefully chosen yeasts add extra layers of flavour, while maintaining purity of fruit expression.
