The Muenzenrieder wine-growing estate lies in the neusiedlersee/seewinkel national park. Through natural cultivation methods, rigorous harvest scrutiny, and controlled cellar operations, winegrowers Johann and Johannes Muenzenrieder produce potent wines marked with regional characteristics and tremendous intensity.
Enjoying the special microclimate of the sun drenched seewinkel aera, fruitful, fresh white and dense, robust red wines flourish. the adjoining lake neusiedl and numerous small marshes of the area serve as heat reservoirs, providing ample amounts of air moisture. Consequently, the ideal conditions for the cultivation of the coveted “noble rot” (botrytis) are set, allowing for the vinification of high-class sweet wines.
Muenzenrieder sources their Grüner Veltliner grapes from their own estate vineyards located in the Neusiedlersee-Seewinkel national park region of Burgenland. Key vineyard sites include Ried Schandlesgrund, characterized by crushed stone and black earth.
Ice wine is a rare, intensely sweet dessert wine made from grapes that have frozen naturally while still on the vine. Picked in sub-zero temperatures (below -8°C or 17°F), the frozen grapes are pressed immediately, leaving behind ice crystals (water) and yielding a highly concentrated, sugary juice. This labour-intensive process requires precise, cold weather conditions.
