Muenzenrieder, Sämling, Trockenbeerenausese, Prädikatswein, 2018, Burgenland, Austria

Producer Profile

The Muenzenrieder wine-growing estate lies in the neusiedlersee/seewinkel national park. Through natural cultivation methods, rigorous harvest scrutiny, and controlled cellar operations, winegrowers Johann and Johannes Muenzenrieder produce potent wines marked with regional characteristics and tremendous intensity.

Enjoying the special microclimate of the sun drenched seewinkel aera, fruitful, fresh white and dense, robust red wines flourish. the adjoining lake neusiedl and numerous small marshes of the area serve as heat reservoirs, providing ample amounts of air moisture. Consequently, the ideal conditions for the cultivation of the coveted “noble rot” (botrytis) are set, allowing for the vinification of high-class sweet wines.

Viticulture

100% Sämling. Sourced from Ried Neubruch and Römerstein.  Vineyard made up of a mixture of crushed stone, black earth.

Winemaking

Cool fermentation in stainless steel. 5 months in tank prior to bottling.

Tasting Note

On the nose, delicately spicy underlaid with orange, mango, and baked apple supported by a fine spiciness. Enormous complexity, with juicy-sweet apricot, pineapple and banana notes supported by a distinctive acidity, shows good length.

Goes well with

A simple poached pear or macadamia nut cheesecake.

Cellaring

TBA’s have an exceptional aging potential, 10+ years with careful cellaring.
