The 2020 Vintage had hot and dry conditions, allowing fruit to fully ripen, resulting in a wine that is full flavoured, full bodied and full of colour.
The 2020 Alejandro Durif was made from small berries, small bunches and shrivel. Fermented out to 15.5% ABV and sulphured ex MLF this wine went straight to American oak – and the balance to old French. A rich wine to be taken very seriously.
Impenetrable inky black in colour with a very deep bright dark red, black hue. Nosing reveals morello cherry, liquorice and graphite like scents followed by some toasty oak and pepper.
Rich and robust, ripe morello cherry and liquorice fruits are framed by a stern tannin structure which lends a grippy feel to the finish. Dark plum, subtle earthy graphite and spice characters are also apparent. Bright youthful acidity with a dry and tightly compacted aftertaste.
Perfectly cooked rib eye or any big rich meaty dish.
