Under the expert eye of the award-winning winemaker, Alex Russell, Alex Russell Wines has raised the bar of winemaking in South Australia’s Riverland region for the last six years. With a wealth of knowledge and experience in the industry, both locally and internationally, Alex’s motivation to create the best possible product has resulted in a diverse range of premium alternative wines.
Alex Russell has also been personally involved in designing and creating one of the most innovative and state-of-the-art wineries in Australia. The new facility includes a state-of-the-art cellar door for tourists, which is an excellent example of how Alex’s vision for the future is creating an exceptional product that will allow his customers to experience their brand first-hand.

Viticulture
The 2021 Vintage had hot and dry conditions, allowing the fruit to fully ripen, resulting in a wine that is full-flavoured, full-bodied and full of colour.
The season started with budburst occurring at the normal time, but a hot summer required exceptional irrigation management to nurture the vines to their full potential. Challenging climatic conditions were managed which resulted in good to excellent wine quality.
Winemaking
Alejandro is a premium offering of alternate varietals wines inspired by the sun-beaten soils of Southern Spain.
The varieties grown for the Alejandro label, such as Saperavi, adapt exceptionally well to the climate of the Murray Darling wine-growing region, which mirrors that of their ancestral homes. Dark and fruit-driven, Alejandro Premium Australian Wines are the perfect companions for all things tapas.
6 months maturation in barrel using both French and American oak.
Tasting Note
Mulberry, dark fruits, fennel and spice combined to produce a complex aromatic wine that resembles a rich, dark fruit cake. Rich, tannic, full bodied with lots of French and American oak to compliment the fruits and spices.
Goes well with
Rich meat dishes or on the couch with dark rum and raisin chocolate.
