Since the 1990s, Stefano Aymerich di Laconi and his wife Beatrice Lucangeli devoted themselves entirely to expressing the noblest identity of Verdicchio. Replanting vineyards and focusing on the historic Classico district, they helped restore prestige to one of Italy’s most important white wine denominations, originally established in 1968.
Over the years, Tavignano has become synonymous with precision, longevity and terroir-driven Verdicchio. The estate has received numerous Tre Bicchieri awards, culminating in the highest recognition from Gambero Rosso — White Wine of the Year 2017 for Misco 2015, a wine widely considered a reference expression of the appellation.
Misco Riserva 2019 was awarded a Gold Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards, and recent vintages have consistently scored above 90 points from leading international critics including James Suckling, Robert Parker (The Wine Advocate) and Antonio Galloni (Vinous), reinforcing Tavignano’s position within the fine wine segment.
Today, the estate is led by Ondine de la Feld, Stefano’s niece, who continues this legacy with a clear vision rooted in sustainability and territorial identity. Under her leadership, Tavignano completed its organic conversion in 2018 and has further refined its parcel selection and vineyard work across 30 hectares of Verdicchio and native varieties.
A blend of predominately Montepulciano with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot sourced from Tavignano’s hills (west of Ancona, 20 miles from Adriatic Sea), 3 hectares under vine from medium-height slopes in sandy and rocky soil. Trained Espalier system & spurred cordon, yielding 6 ton per hectare.
Hand picking, in small boxes, with selection on the vine.
21 days of maceration and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Aged in old barriques for 14 months with a further 6 months in bottle prior to release.
Intense ruby red with garnet hues at first sight. On the nose the fruit aromas are reminiscent of “marasca” cherries, with jam and just a little plum, spicy.
The palate is soft, smooth with silky tannins, behind balsamic and smoky notes.
Red meats and seasoned cheeses.
The 2020 Tenuta di Tavignano Libenter Marche Rosso has a robust structure suitable for medium-term aging. It is generally recommended to be enjoyed up until 2032+.
