His business vocation was awarded the Internationalization Award by the La Rioja Chamber of Commerce in 2002.

Since 1994, he has based his work on the creation and development of three brands: Tobía, Óscar Tobía, Alma Tobía. Oscar’s main philosophy has always been to creative, innovative with a non-conformist spirit.

Viticulture

The vineyards selected for Tobía Cuvée wine are high-quality vineyards, where the maximum grape yields do not reach 7,000 kg / ha. They are exceptional farms, with ages between 15 and 60 years distributed by different municipalities such as Cervera de Río Alhama, Alfaro, Autol and Ausejo (Rioja Oriental), Laserna (Rioja Alavesa) and Hormilla, Nájera and Azofra (Rioja Alta). Most of these selected vineyards are found at high altitudes, ranging from 550 m to 800 m. above sea level, which will provide a great natural freshness to the wines.

Winemaking

Cuvée Tobía comes from the assembly of different wines from different vintages. Oscar Tobía has recovered a very old tradition in Rioja. All the wines follow a traditional de-stemming process. Only the “tear” musts from the tank are selected, which are of the highest quality, discarding the press musts. One of the wines in this cuvee, was fermented in new American fine oak barrels where it spent 3 months on its lees. The technique of battonage or stirring of the lees was carried out daily to create complexity and texture. The remaining blend was fermented in stainless steel tank.

Tasting Note

Very bright straw yellow colour with an iridescent green rim. On the nose it presents an intense, fine and complex aroma. we can meet one symphony of fruit aromas such as pear, citrus (tangerine), pineapple, banana and fruit of the passion. Also floral notes such as orange blossom and mint, perfectly assembled with notes of more ripe fruit, honey, toffee and spices such as cinnamon and vanilla that gives it extra complexity.

Initially sweet, velvety, followed by great acidity, very integrating and refreshing with good length and without edges. A very good wine balanced, round, tasty. With a very pleasant aftertaste of notes fruity and a persistent finish.
